When it comes to local content, measuring our performance is important to track our success. Calculation and reporting of Kazakhstani content spent is one of the legal requirements for TCO. It’s in our best interests to ensure that TCO suppliers are familiar with methodology of KC calculation. On a quarterly basis we conduct relevant training for our Business Partners that cover certain aspects of Subsoil Use Code and governmental decrees, which govern the calculation of local content, basic concepts and definitions, and examples of calculating KC in goods and services spent. Please note that this training is dedicated to TCO’s current suppliers and contractors only.
On the eve of the New Year, Opening Ceremony was arranged in the city of Kulsary, Zhylyoi district, to launch General School No. 13 for 600 children in Bereke microdistrict. The school was built within the framework of Tengizchevroil's Egilik Voluntary Social Infrastructure Program.
At the solemn opening ceremony, Akim of Zhylyoi district Zhumabek Karazhanov highlighted the importance of providing younger generation with high-quality education and TCO’s contribution in that: “Today is a special day for the residents of our town. We are opening a new school. It was built as part of Egilik Program, and we are grateful to Tengizchevroil for its contribution to the development of our region. Our children will receive high-quality education here. I wish them excellent studies and success in the future.”
The school is compliant with all modern educational standards. The building of the school is divided into 3 blocks: the first three-storeyed block houses the senior classes; the central block contains an assembly and sports halls and a dining room. The third block, consisting of two floors, contains classrooms for primary school classes and a medical room. The classrooms of technology, physics, chemistry, as well as laboratory rooms are fully fitted with modern equipment, from microscopes to laptops. Moreover, the school is fully inclusive and equipped with walkways for visually impaired, special ramps and sanitary facilities. The school site itself is divided into 4 zones: gym and sports zone; a recreation area for students, an educational and experimental zone, and an economic zone. In addition, up to 37% of the school’s territory is subject to landscaping.
It should be noted that the school was built in a new area with staff composed from teachers of School #13 in Kulsary, which had previously suffered from floods. Thus, this project contributed to solving the issues of education not only for young residents of the new neighborhood, but also for students of the emergency school.
“Tengizchevroil, as a socially responsible company, pays special attention to supporting education as one of the priority areas of social projects. We believe that the future belongs to educated youth and we strive to contribute to their development”, - noted Aibek Krambayev, TCO General Manager of Policy, Government and Public Affairs department.
It should be noted that within the scope of Egilik Voluntary Social Infrastructure Program, 25 educational institutions have been built since 1998, and nine of them are schools. In total, over 120 facilities have been built over the years of the Program. On an annual basis, TCO allocates $25 million for construction of schools, kindergartens, hospitals and other socially significant facilities in Atyrau Oblast.
