Akim of the Atyrau Oblast, Serik Shapkenov: “I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all veterans of the oil and gas industry on this momentous anniversary! Your invaluable contribution to the development of Tengiz has laid the foundation for the incredible growth and advancement of our Independent Kazakhstan. In the challenging years that followed, it was oil that helped our country and contributed to the flourishing of other related industries. We are forever grateful to our veterans for their unwavering labor and dedication.”

More than 200 people, veterans of the oil and gas industry, have been awarded jubilee medals in honor of the 45th anniversary of the Tengiz field. Among the invited guests were both descendants of the discoverers of the Tengiz field and those who drilled the first wells.

Tulegen Baizakov, an oil and gas industry veteran, noted that “working at Tengiz was an excellent challenge for production specialists and not everyone could pass it with flying colors. Looking back, I see how much Tengiz has changed, technologies have become more advanced. I want to express my special gratitude to the younger generation, which remembers and honors the memory and contribution of Tengiz discoverers to the oil and gas industry of the country".

As part of the 45th anniversary celebration, industry veterans were able to visit the field and witness the scale of modern Tengiz and the advancements in technology.

Tengiz, which was discovered in the 70s of the last century, is one of the most unique and complex fields in terms of its development. The names of its discoverers are forever inscribed in history in golden letters: Zholdaskali Dosmukhambetov, Bulekbai Sagingaliyev, Bulat Yelamanov, Asabai Khismetov, Kumar Balzhanov, Valentin Avrov, Mahash Balgimbayev, Oryngazy Iskaziyev, who were later awarded the State Award of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The first well produced oil from sub-salt formations at a depth of 4045-4095 meters on December 18, 1979. Since then, this date has been considered the starting point of full-scale oil and gas production at the Tengiz field.

“The discovery of the Tengiz field has opened a new chapter not only for the oil industry, but for the country in general, being an example of a strong partnership between Kazakhstan and international companies. Over these years, not only have we worked together to deliver safe and reliable production, but we have also applied oil field technologies, invested in human capital, supported the communities where we operate and helped fuel Kazakhstan’s economic progress.” said Kevin Lyon, General Director of Tengizchevroil LLP.

“The younger generation of oil workers continue the legacy of our veterans with dignity. Tengizchevroil is a world-class company today. For several years in a row, TCO has been recognized as the “Best Employer” of the year, as well as the “Best Taxpayer”. The Company continues to improve the competencies of Kazakhstani specialists as well as support the

development of Kazakhstani content,” emphasized Konilkosh Suyessinov, Deputy General Director of Tengizchevroil.
