During a business trip to Atyrau Oblast, Minister of Energy Magzum Mirzagaliyev reviewed the progress of Tengizchevroil’s (TCO) Future Growth Project-Wellhead Pressure Management Project (FGP-WPMP) in Tengiz.

Currently, FGP-WPMP is 85% complete.

In the first half of 2021, TCO procured goods and services from Kazakhstani companies amounting to $1.7 billion, including $1.2 billion as part of FGP-WPMP implementation. Since the commencement of the project, TCO has spent more than $11.9 billion on Kazakhstani goods and services.

When complete, FGP-WPMP will increase oil production in Tengiz by 12 million tonnes per year, bringing TCO’s total production to 39 million tonnes of crude oil per year.

FGP-WPMP will introduce state-of-the-art technologies to the Tengiz oilfield, including an advanced Integrated Operations Control Center (IOCC). TCO is also expanding the capabilities of the newly implemented Virtual Plant that will help facilitate the full optimization of production data.

The Minister noted the importance of FGP-WPMP for the national economy and instructed TCO to further ramp up Kazakhstani content in procurement of goods, works and services.

“For many years TCO projects have been making a great economic impact involving not only the development of local businesses, but also the transfer of technologies, development of workforce competencies and upgrade of regional infrastructure,” noted Mr. M. Mirzagaliyev.

During the visit, Minister Mirzagaliyev recognized TCO’s strong performance during the pandemic period and noted that thanks to robust safeguards and safety measures in Tengiz the recent maintenance activities at the Second Generation Plant & Sour Gas Injection facilities were successfully completed ahead of schedule. More than 6,400 employees worked 1.4 million working hours to safely complete these maintenance activities. 36 Kazakhstan companies were involved in providing services in different fields from engineering to repair and replacement of compressors and turbines.

“We appreciate the Republic of Kazakhstan's (RoK) support for TCO's business activities. In particular, government support for the company’s voluntary vaccination program has helped TCO maintain safe and reliable operations and safely advance FGP-WPMP activities. It was a great pleasure and honor to host the Minister on this visit and showcase the tremendous talent and skills of our national workforce here at Tengiz.” – TCO General Director Kevin Lyon said.

In addition, measures taken to achieve a high level of vaccination of the workforce against COVID-19 helped ensure uninterrupted production operations. As of today, over 70,000 Tengiz employees (or more than 90%) have been fully vaccinated.
