On August 25, the representatives of Atyrau Oblast Ecology Department visited Tengiz field. The department head, Askar Zhussupov and his colleagues have visited TCO’s key environmental facilities such as Tengiz Eco Center (TEC), Water Treatment and Water Recycling Facilities (WTF/WRF). They have also checked the operation of automated emission monitoring system (AEMS).

It should be noted that implementation of AEMS was completed in 2024 and now Tengizchevroil (TCO) transmits data from its facilities in real time to the National Data Bank on state of the environment and natural resources.

«Today I familiarized myself with the production activities and environmental facilities of Kazakhstan’s largest oil and gas company – Tengizchevroil. Our delegation visited unique sites equipped with modern technology, such as the WTF/WRF and Tengiz Eco Center. I would like to emphasize that we will continue our joint efforts to minimize risks and protect the environment, » - said Askar Zhussupov, Head of Department.

Tengiz Eco Center – is a modern complex facility designed for effective waste management that results from operations of TCO and its business partners. It is a key facility for receiving, sorting, processing various types of waste and their disposal. TEC has been operating since 2004 and is equipped with modern equipment that allows to bring waste management in accordance with national and international standards. It should be noted that TCO is constantly looking for new ways to reduce the amount of waste and consistently working to reduce the environmental footprint of its production activities.

At TCO, we strive to reduce waste generation and maximize recycling of what has already been generated. By the end of Q2 of 2025, we have recycled and reused 82% of all waste, which represents more than 35 types.”, - noted Nurtas Kenganov, General Manager of Operational Excellence, Health, Safety and Environment department. – We strive to operate reliably and in an environmentally friendly manner, which is one of the main principles of our company. Over the past 20 years, TCO has implemented many projects aimed at reducing its environmental impact”.

Representatives of the Ecology Department also learnt about the work of WTF and WRF, where up to 49% of water is cleaned and reused (according to the results of the first half of 2025). The treated domestic wastewater flows from WTF to water recycling facilities, where it is further treated by reverse osmosis to process water quality standards, meeting the needs of TCO plants.

It should be noted that TCO adheres to the principles of environmental protection and an effective management system. The company is constantly looking for new ways and is consistently working to reduce the environmental footprint of its production activities.
